Boarding, Her Way
Nestled in the leafy suburbs of Hyde Park, just 3.5km from Adelaide's CBD, Walford Anglican School for Girls empowers students to embark on a distinctive educational journey curated to their needs and aspirations.
An Excellence Awardee for ‘Boarding School of the Year’ in the 2024 Australian Education Awards, the Walford Boarding House stands as a haven of comfort and belonging within the school’s Secondary School campus. Walford boarders talk about the Boarding House as a place where they benefit from an outstanding education while making lifelong friendships with their boarding ‘sisters’. The ‘family’ of Walford boarders is just the right size for every girl to be known while building a family and home away from home.
Principal Dr Deborah Netolicky describes the Boarding House as a special, close-knit place where girls flourish academically, socially, and personally.
"We pride ourselves on our family-like boarding environment of care, safety and belonging, with modern facilities that set the standard for contemporary living, learning and leading,” she said.
Equipped with ensuite bathrooms, both shared and private rooms offer security and comfort to our students. Cosy communal spaces foster camaraderie and relaxation, with movie nights and shared meals at the Fig Tree Café strengthening bonds among boarders from diverse backgrounds. A vibrant weekend activities program ensures fun-filled and varied experiences, affording opportunities for skill development, socialisation, and exploration of all that Adelaide has to offer.
"Our dedicated boarding staff are committed to truly knowing each girl and understanding their individual needs," Dr Netolicky said. "We prioritise creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that cultivates independence, self-confidence, and mutual respect among our girls."
While academic excellence remains paramount, Walford's boarding philosophy focuses on fostering individual talents and preparing students for life's challenges. With personalised attention, students receive support tailored to their strengths and interests. The school’s diverse co-curricular opportunities allow students to explore passions and develop skills beyond the Boarding House and classroom.
Head of Boarding Edwina Birrell explains that parents play an integral role in their daughter's educational journey.
“We actively engage with parents to ensure their involvement, fostering a collaborative partnership between home and school,” she said. “Choosing Walford means more than choosing a school; it means choosing a nurturing community where your daughter can grow, thrive, and find her place in the world.”
