Welcome to St Catherine's School Sydney

St Catherine’s School Sydney is Australia’s oldest Anglican girls’ school, welcoming students from Kindergarten to Year 12, with boarders joining us from Year 7. We offer a vast academic curriculum and a dynamic learning environment, complemented by strong cocurricular programs in sport, music, performing arts and service education. St Catherine's teaching is intentionally tailored to girls - based on research that shows girls in single sex schools achieve higher academic outcomes, and have higher self-belief, self-esteem and confidence. Although we are an academically non-selective school, our results are consistently excellent. In the 2023 HSC, our top ATAR was 99.9, with 49.6% of students achieving an ATAR over 90 and 7.1% of students achieving an ATAR above 99.

Boarding at St Catherine's School Sydney

The first students at St Catherine’s School Sydney were boarders. Since 1856, our boarding house has flourished, with girls from a wide variety of backgrounds coming together to continue our strong boarding tradition. Over the years, the boarding house and the school have changed considerably. Today’s boarding students live in a modern, welcoming environment located in the most historic part of the school. From taking care of their rooms, to helping new boarders settle in, to daily life with each other, our boarders develop skills of independence and self-efficacy, as well as learning how to live well with others. They also form friendships that last a lifetime. The boarding community in turn enhances the school by making it a home, infusing it with vitality, depth and heart.

With only 66 places in the boarding house, every girl is known, nurtured and cared for by dedicated live-in staff. The boarding house is newly decorated in a fresh contemporary style and each girl has privacy for study and rest with single rooms available. Boarding is central to school life and girls form deep bonds, becoming an extended group of like-minded ‘sisters’ who find support, guidance and friendship in each other. Their collective and positive attitude weaves into the wider school, making for a happy, connected community.

Located in the close-knit and safe suburb of Waverley, St Catherine’s offers boarding students the opportunity to experience the perfect Sydney living experience. The Eastern Suburbs campus is well located, just 5 minutes away from Bronte Beach and Centennial Parklands, 10 minutes to iconic Bondi Beach and less than 20 minutes from the CBD and Sydney Airport.
