PLC Armidale ... equipping girls for lives of significance since 1887
Presbyterian Ladies' College (PLC) Armidale has equipped young women of character to lead lives of significance for 138 years.
Our College combines years of tradition with innovative teaching to offer a dynamic, all-girls’ education tailored to the specific needs of girls, serving both day and boarding students from Pre-Kinder to Year 12. Boarders are well catered for at the Presbyterian Ladies College (PLC) Armidale from Year 5.
There is a mix of full, weekly, and casual boarding, with each girl assigned her own room within a shared space to decorate in whichever style she chooses. The family environment created by the husband-and-wife Head of Boarding team, Sam and Amy Jacometti, who live on campus with their two young daughters, is unique to our College and enjoyed by the girls.
A stunning garden and parkland at PLC Armidale provide a tranquil environment that is welcoming and conducive to the culture of learning that exists at the college.
The size of one of the oldest educational institutions in Armidale has been intentionally designed to accommodate bespoke learning plans. Our college boasts a highly respected and enviable reputation for academic excellence, offering a broad curriculum and an extensive nurturing pastoral care program.
As places are limited to support a phenomenal average student-to-teacher ratio of 6 to 1, priority is given to current PLC Armidale Junior School students when Senior School capacity is reviewed each year.
PLC Armidale frequently features in the top 200 schools for HSC achievements. Approximately 95 per cent of PLC Armidale graduates progress to study university courses, and around one-third of those elect to pursue Science related subjects.
Principal Nicola Taylor said the college's HSC results demonstrated the school's academic advantage, regularly having a higher percentage of the HSC cohort on the NESA Distinguished Achievers list than any other school in Armidale, and in 2024, the highest percentage of any school in New England.
This academic rigour, combined with our unique Explore Serve Journey (ESJ) experiential learning program, which utilises character-building rites of passage to integrate service, leadership, and outdoor education, empowers girls to reach their full potential.
"We designed our ESJ experiential learning program to focus on the growth and transformation of the individual in context with the community of learners around them," Mrs Taylor said. "Our students have higher occupational aspirations, which are fostered throughout their schooling. They also have higher participation rates in sports and develop a greater sense of connection."
Mrs Taylor said the college consistently scored above the national average in all areas of NAPLAN testing, the strongest results of any school in the region.
"Students educated in a low-density, all-girls environment are more confident about asking questions, particularly in mathematics and science," she said.
Co-curricular activities include the award-winning livestock team, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Service Learning trips. For the past four years, PLC Armidale has been chosen to prepare and lead the Shute Bell Victor Chang Foundation charity steers at Sydney Royal Show.
Our brilliant Creative and Performing Arts and STEM Faculty teachers develop our girls to excel in dance, drama, music, science, and visual art, with many achieving state, national, and international recognition.
Our students also excel beyond the classroom in many extracurricular activities, including cattle team and equestrian pursuits, as well as sports and the arts. In addition to our academic excellence, PLC Armidale is renowned for its musical prowess, sporting success, leadership and community service involvement.
An intense focus on literacy forms the foundation for academic success, underpinned by supportive and respectful relationships between teachers and students. Girls blossom in the nurturing environment. The College motto is Ad Astra (to the stars), and we work in partnership with every student and her family to achieve her personal best at PLC Armidale.
The International Student program called PLC Pathways, is a 12-month intensive English (ELICOS) and cultural familiarisation residential program for secondary school-aged girls. PLC Pathways operates alongside the regular College program and is a unique and welcome addition to an already culturally diverse, inclusive and globally connected PLC Armidale.
