Are we really doing this ? Halloween ? Thankfully my kids are all adults now and I haven’t had to indulge them with another fancy dress/eat/scare event for the year! Though living rurally and quite a way out of town, I guess we wouldn’t have had to ‘dress’ the house up either.
Where have I been you may ask…. or not. Maybe you haven’t noticed that my monthly catchup where I ponder my own thoughts and share some hot happenings hasn’t showed up here in its truest form for quite a while?
I have been absolutely in the trenches… in a good way. Recording dozens and dozens of podcast episodes including our upcoming Nailing Homesickness series that runs throughout the summer holidays. We talk to current boarders about all the ways they managed those feelings of grief and loss when they began at boarding school. They’re short 15 minute chats ideal for the drive to town when your new boarder is sitting right next to you.
We filmed and then ‘dropped’ (like your average Netflix doco’😉) our 3rd Australian Boarding Schools Summit where we deep dive into the matters that matter to boarding school families and those considering their options. Incredible content here and you can watch it anytime via our Boarding Expo 365 platform.
Honestly I’m puffed. It’s been a lot. And now we’re planning for our Mount Isa Popup Expo (current series on our podcast A Road to Mount Isa). In breaking news I have Angie Nisbet from the renown podcast Married to the Land hosting a LIVE Q&A Panel in Mount Isa for our families that attend. Angie will be chatting to the boarding schools themselves along with ICPA, the Vice-Chair of Australian Boarding Schools Association QLD Chapter, Stuart Delaney and some very special families all about life up north in remote Australia and our boarding schools’ very own perspective on nurturing our most remote kids.
Do something for me before you click off, I’d be so appreciative. Would you FOLLOW our podcast channel, Destination Boarding ? And if you do listen to an episode leave a rating, even a review if you’re feeling so inclined. I’ve put a link in one of the topics below to one of our latest episode.
Good to be back… Happy Halloween 👻
PS There’s also a link below to our resident psychologist Dr Lisa Fahey’s Give Me Five toolbox for detecting mental health challenges and issues in our teens (anyone really but we’ll focus on our boarders). If you’re a school I can’t recommend this technology highly enough. I’m happy to link you up with Dr Lisa and her husband + co-developer Brendan Fahey. They’re changing the world (literally) when it comes to early detection of mental health crises.
DESTINATION BOARDING THE PODCAST
Seriously good content for the boarder and their family
I wish something like this had been around when my kids were at boarding school, and indeed when we were researching boarding schools. The chats with schools, students, parents, and industry experts are so going to be your jam! There’s a link here for my chat with Danielle Doyle (aka Miss Chardy’)from ‘Mittiebah Station’ in the Territory.
I really enjoyed chatting to Dan and can’t wait to catch up with her in a few weeks in Mount Isa as she heads home from Brisbane with her young boarder.

Australian Boarding Schools Summit 2024
Our inquisitive journo’ Jen Cowley OAM is back this year leading authentic and heartfelt discussions about boarding schools in Australia. From scholarships and bursaries, to supporting country children academically once they arrive at boarding school to discussing whether size really matters when it comes to boarding cohorts – there’s open honest discussion for all.
Take some time to watch or listen – eye opening and engaging discussions about one of, if not the, most important decision you’ll ever make on behalf of your kids.
FINAL EXPO FOR 2024
On the Road to Mount Isa
Or if I’m totally honest, I’m flying. Too much going on down south with harvest and irrigation for me to be taking a leisurely 4000km return road trip. I’m so looking forward to getting back up north – I was up there in August visiting our daughter and this time we’ll cross paths for an afternoon as she flies south for a wedding. We’re mixing up our usual format and hosting a LIVE Q&A Panel discussion for our visiting families. Angie Nisbet, the northern podcast ‘queen’ host of Married to the Land will facilitate some lively discussions and we can’t wait.
Here are the things we’re loving right now…
OUR Q&A HOST ANGIE NISBET (MARRIED TO THE LAND)
The podcast that connects rural women across Australia
Born and raised in north western Queensland, this remote Mum has turned podcasting into a ‘connector’ of rural women from all walks of life whether that’s farming, art, or indeed, running a Boarding School Expo business! Listen to Angie’s interview she recorded with me last year.
