All I want for Christmas is….. (no, I’m not singing) for you to FOLLOW our podcast Destination Boarding! The more people that follow and rate, the more people discover it and how good is it that we have the opportunity to share the stories of our Australian boarding schools? We chat weekly with parents, ex-students, current students, industry stakeholders and of course, the schools themselves. When you Follow a certain podcast it will ensure you don’t miss an episode.
Released this week is a wonderful conversation with Angie Nisbet, herself a podcaster (Married to the Land), where we wrap up our recent LIVE Q&A panel discussions that were part of our Mount Isa popup expo event. If you’re part of a boarding school community, or if you’re thinking about boarding school then this is really worthy listening.
Our Nailing Homesickness series that runs throughout the summer holidays is essential listening for any new boarder. Our first episode dropped today. We talk to current boarder students about all the ways they managed those feelings of grief and loss when they began at boarding school. They’re short 15 minute chats ideal for the drive to town when your new boarder is sitting right next to you. (You can also go back and listen to our first two series of Nailing Homesickness if you feel your new boarder could benefit from a few more.)
From all of us here at Boarding Schools Expo we are so grateful to you, our community, for a successful 2025.
1,274 children met their future boarding school at one of our 5 in-person events this year. How awesome is that!
Have a very happy Christmas and New Years break and I hope you get to enjoy it with friends, family and community wherever you call home.
P.S. Exciting news for our team here of late. Check out our favourite things below.
DESTINATION BOARDING THE PODCAST
Seriously good content for the boarder and their family
Make this your next podcast listen
I wish something like this had been around when my kids were at boarding school, and indeed when we were researching boarding schools. The chats with schools, students, parents, and industry experts are so going to be your jam! There’s a link here for my chat with Angie Nisbet from Married to the Land podcast.
If you know anyone thinking about looking at boarding school as an option or if your children are at boarding school now, then you’ll love this chat.

Australian Boarding Schools Summit 2024
Our inquisitive journo’ Jen Cowley OAM is back this year leading authentic and heartfelt discussions about boarding schools in Australia. From scholarships and bursaries, to supporting country children academically once they arrive at boarding school to discussing whether size really matters when it comes to boarding cohorts – there’s open honest discussion for all.
Take some time to watch or listen – eye opening and engaging discussions about one of, if not the, most important decision you’ll ever make on behalf of your kids.
HOMESICKNESS & GRIEF
Listen to Nailing Homesickness on Destination Boarding
For many kids the transition to boarding school can be incredibly challenging. Leaving home, learning new routines, making new friends, missing the family dog, surrounded by so many people…. these are just some of the challenges that contribute to feelings (shared or hidden) that can overwhelm our newest boarders.
Our 3rd Summer Series of Nailing Homesickness is here. Short chats with seasoned boarders about all of those big feelings and how they worked through them.
Here are the things we’re loving right now…
WE HAD A WEDDING IN THE TEAM
Introducing Mr & Mrs Gregory
Our number one head of content & communications here at Boarding Schools Expo, Adelaide, got married in the most stunning garden wedding at her family’s property out of Armidale, NSW.
Who is the lucky groom you may ask…? The one and only Lachlan Gregory from the central west of NSW. These two are just the best couple and their wedding day oozed joy and love (this pic 😌).
We are a very close unit, Adelaide and I, and it was an absolute honour to watch this darling human marry her best mate.
TURN THE AIR-CON UP & HIT THE SOFA
Let’s have a moment (or 1,387 of them) with Taylor Sheridan
Look, I know Yellowstone’s been on our radar for some time now but hold your 27 gallon hats, creator Taylor Sheridan has a veritable suite of sofa-gluing summer viewing for your pleasure. I’m going to link here to Landman (Prime Video). Others to stay glued for include Special Ops: Lioness (so so good) and 1883, 1923 the Dutton family sagas. Taylor is a gifted writer of the one-liner drop-the- mic style wisecracks and none better than those delivered by Billy Bob Thornton in Landman. Couples therapy at its best…you’re welcome.
Have you finished your boarding school journey ? Share our news…. tell your friends and family who might be on their way. Our website provides almost 20 years of resources and experience to families and students considering their options and beginning their days at boarding school.
