Culture of excellence brings out each boy's best
Brisbane Grammar School is independent and non-denominational, embracing diversity and focusing on providing an education that creates the best start in life for the thinkers and leaders of tomorrow. BGS culture is distinctive, balancing the highest academic standards with a rich array of sporting and cultural activities. Our graduates attend the world’s leading universities, excel in their chosen careers and professions and make their own futures.
As Brisbane’s first secondary school for boys, Brisbane Grammar School has been a leader in education in Queensland since its foundation in 1868. Our pursuit of excellence extends to our ambition to be the best school for boys in Australia. To achieve this, BGS has created world-class boarding facilities, recently completing a $5 million development to provide leading facilities with an individual, modern room for each boy in Years 5 to 8 (Griffith House) and Years 9 to 12 (Harlin House).
The Middle School (Years 5 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 12) at BGS boast state-of-the-art facilities, providing tailored educational and boarding environments for boys of different age groups. Boarders benefit from specialised academic enrichment programs, engaging weekend activities and enduring connections unique to the residential setting. The boarding experience reflects the School’s values, fostering a respectful community that emphasises learning, leadership and endeavour
The School's commitment to a broad liberal education cultivates critical, reflective and creative thinkers. A special teaching framework equips students with the skills needed to navigate Queensland's ATAR assessment system. The newly established STEAM Precinct underscores the commitment to educational excellence, offering a cutting-edge hub for collaboration, exploration and innovation across science, art and humanities.
Cocurricular sports, art, drama, music, clubs and activities cater for boys wanting to learn new skills and make new friends, through to elite performers with the highest aspirations.
At the core of the School's mission is student wellbeing. BGS supports boys to be happy, confident and resilient, both at school and as lifelong learners. Students are encouraged to take part in Public Purpose programs specific to each year level, to foster a sense of service and connection to the wider community.
As part of its distinctive educational experience for boys, Brisbane Grammar School also provides students with adventure-based programs through its Outdoor Education Centre at Moogerah, west of Brisbane.
