Empowering Young Women to be Courageous, Constructive and Compassionate World Citizens
Abbotsleigh is a Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 Anglican day and boarding school for girls. The school’s sixth headmistress, Miss Betty Archdale, says, “With education, women can do or be anything,” which is an ethos the school stands by. It always has, and always will, champion equality for women and girls.
It’s teaching philosophy ensures that girls are provided with experiences that are innovative, challenging, varied and fun. This is why Abbotsleigh girls love to learn. The school believes that by giving every girl the opportunity to do more, she has the ability to be more.
Abbotsleigh prepares girls for a changing world in which they can positively impact their future and that of others. It encourages girls to find opportunities to serve the community and inspires them to act now to make a real difference — a challenge that Abbotsleigh girls always rise to meet with energy and determination.
Its boarding students primarily come from country and regional New South Wales. Boarders are an integral part of the Abbotsleigh community, providing diversity to the culture of the school. Boarders and day students alike have a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities and programs at their disposal to ensure they’re always leading the way in academic and co-curricular outcomes.
Abbotsleigh values girls’ welfare and focuses on enhancing the physical, emotional and spiritual development of each student through a comprehensive wellbeing framework. Teachers encourage the girls to pursue their interests in sporting, music and the performing arts arenas, while achieving their academic personal best.
A leader in girls’ education, Abbotsleigh ranks as a top NSW independent girls’ school in the HSC results, with generally 70 per cent of Year 12 students achieving an ATAR of 90 or above.
An Abbotsleigh holistic education is underpinned by the Christian faith, and staff encourage generosity, respect and understanding of diverse beliefs and cultures.
Abbotsleigh girls are empowered to strive for excellence. They are given room to ask questions, express themselves, take risks and to fail. Students continue to learn and grow long after graduation and maintain their connections through an active Old Girls’ Union.
Regular school tours are held throughout the year. For all enrolment enquiries, please contact Colleen Fenn, Registrar, on (02) 9473 7744 or email registrar@abbotsleigh.nsw.edu.au
