Welcome to our second bonus episode of Destination Boarding The Podcast.
Many families right now, across Australia are getting ready to return to boarding school. It’s an exciting, daunting and nerve-racking time, particularly for those doing it for the first time.
Whether it’s your eldest child, or the first in your family to attend boarding school, it’s a truly momentous occasion and one that we believe should be celebrated.
There’s a period of about 2 weeks in my experience , where prior to leaving home we started to become anxious, AND parents might may not always be able to identify your Child’s emotions . But you’ll notice they start to become a bit cranky, acting out or having a short fuse with those around them. And you’ll probably start to feel those final weeks are starting to feel dominated by arguments or lack of meaningful communication. Everybody reacts differently.
This is the time that we should celebrate. Putting an Art of Ceremony around the final days. Many schools religions, cultures have various rituals or ceremonies that mark the occasion of an important event in one’s life. So why shouldn’t we! When your child – regardless of their age moves away from home, It’s always best to be served by a significant ceremony.
So some ideas I’d like to throw on the table are, Backyard BBQ’s with close friends and neighbours or a dinner at a restaurant in town! You could even distract your child away from the thoughts of heading away and getting them to organise the event themselves! It’s totally up to you !
In this bonus episode I chat with CEO of Boarding Schools Expo Amanda Ferrari about the idea of ceremony and why it’s important to create a celebration around your Child’s journey to Boarding School.
