With over 150 years of experience in teaching boys, we know what makes them tick
Ipswich Grammar School boarders have a home, not just a place to sleep.
Experienced Boarding Masters and teaching staff maintain a strong family atmosphere and encourage all students to be involved in the social and pastoral aspects of the school. The health and well-being of each student is an around the clock responsibility shared by the senior Boarding Master, resident staff, and school medical staff.
Boys will learn vital social skills in a community that fosters both independence and cooperation. Boarders meet boys from different cultures and develop life-long friendships. They also gain insights into their own unique skills and talents. They gain support from peers and staff as they strive to excel in their own areas of interest, whether they be academic, sporting, musical, or cultural.
Boarders are supported to build strong relationships. We believe communication is vital for healthy relationships and we understand that boys need to keep in touch with their families while they also develop lasting friendships at the School.
We work closely with all boys to develop their leadership skills. This is in keeping with the goal of developing a young man who will leave school with both the tools and desire to contribute to the wider community. Whether it be through Boarding House committee involvement, acting as a buddy for new boys, via peer tutoring during homework, or as a Boarding House Prefect, a wide range of opportunities are offered for leadership to be learned.
We engage the boys in as many ways as possible to test, stimulate and challenge them. Weekends are busy with a diverse range of supervised and structured activities such as beach trips, theme parks visits, and a variety of recreational activities. With our heated pool, weights room, gym, and spacious grounds, our boarders have one of the best backyards in the country.
We aim to develop and shape globally responsible, compassionate, independent leaders prepared for the challenges that the future will bring. When boys enter the Boarding community at Ipswich Grammar they embark on a journey that will present them with a myriad of experiences from which they will emerge competent, worldly young men ready to take on the world.
