Give Your Daughter the PLC Experience
Since 1875, PLC girls have achieved some of the finest results in Australia. However, there is much more to a truly well-rounded education than scholastic achievement alone. At PLC, the academic program is richly enhanced by diverse and challenging co-curricular opportunities that support girls as they thrive and grow. From the sporting field to the orchestra pit or stage, from cutting-edge web design to community activities that develop leadership, personal development and responsible service, girls benefit from a truly unique PLC experience. The classrooms may be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies but the most important asset continues to be the innovative and passionate teachers, many of whom are recognised leaders in their field. Within a nurturing Christian environment that values each girl’s potential and wellbeing, PLC fosters integrity, resilience and compassion, and students graduate as outstanding leaders with a desire to make a difference.
Boarding: Boarding at PLC is an exciting opportunity for girls from rural and regional Australia to study in the city and prepare for their tertiary education options. In 2008, the College opened its brand new state-of-the-art Boarding House, providing extremely comfortable living, individual bedrooms for senior girls and modern facilities throughout. Boarders have access to PLC’s extensive recreational and sporting facilities as well as computers for study needs and our aim is to provide boarders a warm, caring and safe environment that caters for girls personal growth and freedom to explore new opportunities.
Curriculum: In the Junior School, PLC offers exceptional early literacy and numeracy programs that enrich students’ pathways for developmental learning. In the Middle and Senior Schools, girls engage in a strong core curriculum that provides the ideal preparation for either the VCE or the International Baccalaureate (IB). PLC has an outstanding history of academic performance, with the Class of 2011 again achieving some of the state’s top results.
Sport: Sporting skills, physical health and fitness, and an understanding of the importance of teamwork are integral to a healthy lifestyle, and are emphasised through a sporting program that incorporates the full range of Girls’ Sport Victoria (GSV) sports plus many specialist sports.
Co-curricular activities: In 2011, girls participated in productions including PLC’s own staging of Away, as well as The Mikado with boys at Scotch College. The Mikado was honoured with the prestigious Best Junior Musical Production Award as voted by the Musical Theatre Guild of Victoria. House Concerts are also a major school highlight, with girls undertaking every aspect of the creative development — script writing, acting, music, singing and dancing, backdrops, props and direction — of these mini musicals. PLC also encourages girls to explore their love of music, whether singing in choirs, playing in their own rock band or jazz group, composing music, performing in orchestras, or simply perfecting their skills on one of many musical instruments from which they can choose. There is a compulsory sequential outdoor education program in Years 7 to 10. Girls can join clubs for equestrian, bushwalking, chess, drama, environment, music, debating, literature, SUIS and Amnesty International.
