Boarding at Barker – It’s a Family Thing!
Since 1890 boarding has played an important role in the daily school life at Barker College. The School’s small boarding community allows the students in Year 10 – 12 to be part of a family-oriented environment. From Wagga Wagga to Wee Waa and Port Macquarie to Jindabyne, Barker’s Boarders have traditionally come from the rural areas of NSW.
Barker’s boarding houses are situated within the 20 hectares of the beautiful school grounds, giving Boarders easy access to the extensive range of sporting facilities including several playing fields, Aquatic Centre, Indoor Basketball Court and a fully-equipped Gymnasium.
For Boarders at Barker, the emphasis is on family-style pastoral care in community living and Barker boasts a high level of staff involvement with boarding students. Boarders’ daily activities are under the supervision of experienced residential staff, almost all of whom are members of the Barker teaching staff.
Head Girl Boarder, Evie from Woodstock, says she came to Barker to follow her family tradition. “Three generations from both sides of my family attended Barker. Being a Boarder at Barker has given me so many new and different opportunities, in subject choice, sport and other co-curricular activities,” Evie said. “It has allowed me to experience so many more things than I ever would have.”
We invite you to come and visit our Boarding School – where every day is an open day for country families visiting Barker.
