Boarding at Barker – It’s a Family Thing!

Since 1890 boarding has played an important role in the daily school life at Barker College. The School’s small boarding community allows the students in Year 10 – 12 to be part of a family-oriented environment. From Wagga Wagga to Wee Waa and Port Macquarie to Jindabyne, Barker’s Boarders have traditionally come from the rural areas of NSW.

Barker’s boarding houses are situated within the 20 hectares of the beautiful school grounds, giving Boarders easy access to the extensive range of sporting facilities including several playing fields, Aquatic Centre, Indoor Basketball Court and a fully-equipped Gymnasium.

For Boarders at Barker, the emphasis is on family-style pastoral care in community living and Barker boasts a high level of staff involvement with boarding students. Boarders’ daily activities are under the supervision of experienced residential staff, almost all of whom are members of the Barker teaching staff.

Twins, Celeste and Sophia from Mudgee found the idea of a small boarding community very inviting and felt that it would be much better getting to know everyone in the boarding house reasonably well, than being in a large boarding community where you would be lucky to know everyone’s name. “We thought this would make us feel more at home and it did,” the twins said. For both girls, boarding at Barker is proving to be a fantastic experience that has opened up a whole new world of opportunities.

We invite you to come and visit our Boarding School – where every day is an open day for country families visiting Barker.
